Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung successfully concluded his visit to Algeria

During his stay, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, his spouse and the high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese Government were warmly received in a sincere atmosphere.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung had talks with Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika and Chairman of Algerian Council of the Nation Abdelkader Bensalah; and together with high-ranking leaders of Algeria witnessed the signing of cooperative agreements and memoranda between ministries and branches of the two countries.

In the capital city of Algiers, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung chaired a Viet Nam-Algeria business dialogue, received big businesses of Algeria, the Algeria-Viet Nam Friendship Association, the Algeria-Viet Nam Friendship Parliamentarians’ Group and Vovinam Viet Vo Dao Union in Algeria.

In his talk with Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal, the two sides informed each other of the situation in their respective country as well as regional and international situation. The two side maintained that bilateral traditional friendship, and multifaceted cooperation have been developing positively, however results have been modest and have yet matched the two countries’ potential, political relations and expectation of both sides.

The two Prime Ministers unanimously held that in the new context when both countries are stepping up renovation and openness, particularly in economy, the two sides should build partnership in new cooperation framework and more appropriate and effective cooperation models. In that spirit, both sides agreed to strengthen exchange of high-level visits and contacts, coordination and mutual support in international forums and organizations, nomination and participation in United Nations agencies and international organizations and enhance the Inter-Governmental Cooperation Committee’s effectiveness.

On the issue of East Sea, Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal affirmed that Algeria always supports settlement of disputes through peaceful means in line with international law and through dialogue to reduce disagreement. He affirmed Algeria’s persistent stance and readiness to contribute to peacefully resolve disputes including the East Sea issue.

In the fields of economy, trade, investment, the two sides shared the determination to raise two-way trade from US$ 250 million at present to US$ 1 billion in the coming years, creating favorable conditions for businesses of the two sides, and expedite concrete projects of new model in industry, agriculture, food processing, oil and gas, mining, textile and apparel, infrastructure construction, finance, banking, information technology, telecommunication and tourism.

Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal made known that in light industry, Algeria expected that Viet Nam would assist, support, cooperate and help Algeria restore textile and apparel industry and food processing. In agriculture, Algeria would earmarked from 20,000 to 30,000 hectares for rice production and livestock breeding. Viet Nam can send experts and farmers to Algeria to start the project promptly.

In the field of oil and gas, Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal informed that Vietnamese businesses are warmly welcomed in Algeria, in exploration, exploitation and service provision. Besides the joint venture between Petrovietnam and the Algerian National Oil and Gas Company (Sonatrach) with an output of 20,000 to 40,000 barrels per day which will start commercial exploitation in July this year, Algeria is ready to grant licenses to the Viet Nam National Oil and Gas Group to expand capacity of old projects and start other projects in new locations.

In the field of construction, Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal requested Viet Nam to recommend potential businesses. Algeria would create the most favorable conditions, including dispatching laborers to work on construction projects, first of all housing projects.

He said Algeria is ready to welcome Vietnamese businesses in mining which is a great potential of Algeria. Both sides consented to support businesses of the two countries in production, trade and act as a bridge to assist access to markets in the Middle East and Northern Africa and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal affirmed that the visit of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung was of extremely important significance, considering it an important event, a milestone and a turning point in the traditional friendship, and sound cooperation between the two countries, and nations.

While affirming that the two countries once fought shoulder to shoulder for independence, democracy and freedom of respective country, Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal expressed his admiration and appreciation to Viet Nam’s great achievements recorded in renovation, socio-economic development and international integration and his belief that the two countries would continue to support each others as in the past.

For his part, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung expressed his pleasure at his first visit to Algeria, and thanked Algerian leaders and people for their warm and sincere welcome. He confirmed that as close friend with long tradition of friendship, Viet Nam, despite geographic distance, has closely followed and appreciated of Algeria’s achievements. He also underlined that Viet Nam has always born in mind Algeria’s great and precious support and assistance in the years fighting for national independence and national reunification as well as during the difficult post-war period when Viet Nam was rebuilding the country.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung conveyed gratitude to Algeria for acknowledging Viet Nam’s market economy and expressed support to Algeria’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) without negotiation with Viet Nam.
