On 10 August 2015, after a solemn welcoming ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi, President Hamid Md.Abdul had talks and attended the banquet given by President Truong Tan Sang.

At the talks, the two sides informed each other of the political situation, socio-economic development of each country. The two leaders noted with satisfaction the development of the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Viet Nam and Bangladesh for over 40 years since the two countries established diplomatic relations (11 February 1973).

President Truong Tan Sang and President Md.Abdul Hamid agreed to further promote and deepen the existing cooperation areas and expand into other areas that both sides have the potential. The two sides agreed to promote close political relations between Viet Nam and Bangladesh, affirmed the importance of high level exchange of visits and contacts and exchange of visits at all levels, ministries, sectors and localities of the two countries and people-to-people exchange. In this spirit, President of Bangladesh welcomed the high-ranking leaders of Viet Nam to visit Bangladesh in the near future.

The two sides concurred to promote consultations, exchanges and dialogues on policy, early hold the third session of the Viet Nam-Bangladesh Joint Commission on Economic, Trade, Culture, Science - Technology and the first Political Consultation between the two foreign ministries to review and recommend specific directions of cooperation for following years, agreed to strengthen cooperation in the field of security and national defense through the exchange of delegations, exchange of experience on joinning peacekeeping force of the United Nations, cooperate in preventing transnational crime and combat illegal migration to third countries. The two sides agreed to strengthen trade promotion activities, investment, cooperation in the private sector, striving to bring two-way trade turnover to US$ 1 billion in 2016 and create utmost favorable conditions for business community of the two sides to expand investment and business in each country.

The two leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation, share experience and technical development of sustainable agriculture and fishery; actively, fully and effectively implement the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Fishery and Livestock Breeding and the Memorandum of Understanding on Agricultural Cooperation signed during a visit to Viet Nam by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh in 2012.

The two sides highly appreciated the cooperation and close coordination in regional and international fora, especially within the framework of the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement, South-South cooperation, the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) and the regional and sub-regional cooperation.

The two sides confirmed active mutual support and coordination to propose joint initiatives in the issues of mutual concern such as sustainable development, disaster response, security of water resource, food and energy.

The two leaders affirmed to strengthen consultations and promote consensus in the Asian Group on the issues of concern and consistent with the interests of Asia. The two sides stressed the importance of maintaining peace, stability and respect for the fundamental principles of internationally-recognized laws to peacefully resettlement of all disputes to ensure the navigation safety and freedom.

The two sides expressed satisfaction at the frank and sincere exchange in a spirit of mutual understanding as well as the important results achieved during the visit which contribute to further promote good relationship between the two countries in the future.

In the afternoon of 10 August 2015, at the Party Headquarters, Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong met with the visiting President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh Abdul Hamid.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong welcomed the outcome of the talks between the President with President Truong Tan Sang and senior leaders of Viet Nam. The Party General Secretary affirmed the consistent foreign policy of the Party and the State of Viet Nam which is to always attaches great importance to relations with traditional friendly countries, including Bangladesh.

The Party General Secretary expressed the desire that the two sides further strengthen cooperative relations between the two ruling parties, the Congresses and the two peoples and people-to-people exchanges, and strengthen cooperation in such areas as security and national defense, economy, trade, investment, science and technology, culture and tourism.

The Party General Secretary also suggested the two sides strengthen mutual support in international and regional fora; expressed hope that after the visit to Viet Nam of the President, the friendship and cooperation between Viet Nam and Bangladesh will make a new step of substantive and effective development for the benefit of the two peoples for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and in the world.

President Abdul Hamid expressed his admiration for the great achievements in socio-economic development of Viet Nam. He highly appreciate the role and position of Viet Nam in the region, confirming the desire to promote friendly relations and cooperation with Viet Nam in different fields. The President stressed the necessity to strengthen mutual support in international and regional fora and in the United Nations; expressing willingness to share experience with Viet Nam on joining the peacekeeping force of the United Nations.

Also in the afternoon of 10 August, Bangladeshi President Abdul Hamid had a meeting with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said: “The successful visit to Viet Nam of the President will be an important milestone bringing the Viet Nam-Bangladesh traditional and comprehensive friendship to a new height and tangible benefits for the common development of both countries and the two peoples.”

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and President Abdul Hamid exchanged major orientations and specific measures to vigorously promote bilateral cooperation in the future. The two sides agreed to strive to increase bilateral trade turnover from US$ 800 million in 2014 to US$ 1 billion in 2016.

The two sides also agreed to effectively implement the Memorandum on cooperation in agriculture, fishery and animal husbandry; memorandum on rice trade; early sign an agreement on cooperation in tourism and cultural exchange program between the two countries, facilitate tourism activities and exchange between the peoples and businesses of the two countries.

President Abdul Hamid shared deep concern of Viet Nam and ASEAN on recent developments in the East Sea; affirming the importance of ensuring peace, stability, security, safety and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea as well as settling of maritime disputes based on international law, including 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

President Abdul Hamid also stressed the need for the parties concerned to fully implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and build the Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).

“Bangladesh attaches importance to maintaining peace and stability, and holds that disputes must be resolved through peaceful negotiations,” “The Bangladeshi people are very respectful Viet Nam and President Ho Chi Minh. We have found the inspiration for national liberation from your struggle for independence,” President Abdul Hamid said.

On the same day at National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung cordial received Bangladeshi President Abdul Hamid.

Earlier, President Md.Abdul Hamid visited Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and laid wreath at the Monument of the War Martyrs in Hanoi. During the visit, President Md.Abdul Hamid also visited Ha Long Bay, the World Natural Heritage of Viet Nam and Ho Chi Minh City.

On the occasion of the State visit to Viet Nam of President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh Md.Abdul Hamid and his spouse, Viet Nam and Bangladesh issued a Joint Statement.
