Party General Secretary wraps up the official visit to Laos

During the visit, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong held talks with Lao General Secretary and State President Bounnhang Volachith, met with Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith, National Assembly Chairwoman Pany Yahthotu, received Chairman of the Central Committee of the Lao Front for National Construction Saysomphone Phomvihane, Chairman of the Laos-Vietnam Friendship Association Vylayvong Butdakham and visited former Lao Party and State leaders, visited and talked with staff, lecturers, students of the National University of Laos, called at a number of economic and cultural establishments in Vientiane capital and Borikhamxay province.

The talks and meetings took place in an atmosphere of friendship, special solidarity and mutual trust. The two sides informed each other of the situation of each party, and country, exchanged views on policies and measures to continue deepening the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos and compared note on international and regional issues of mutual concern.

The two sides stressed that the protection, preservation and development of the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos are the common responsibility of the two parties, two States and two peoples, especially the younger generations before the history of the two nations, which is vital to ensure the sustainable development and the future of the two countries, contributing positively to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

The two sides agreed to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in the fields of politics, economy, culture, education, science and technology, promote communication and education on Vietnam-Laos special and traditional ties among officials, party members and people of all strata, especially the young generations of the two countries, successfully coordinate and organize activities to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 40th anniversary of the signing the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in 2017.

The two sides agreed to timely share information and coordinate closely in regional and international fora, emphasized the importance of maintaining peace, stability, security and safety in the East Sea, agreed to promote the settlement of disputes in the East Sea by peaceful means on the basis of international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), together with concerned stakeholders fully and effectively implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and soon conclude the Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC) to contribute to maintaining peace and security, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

On this occasion, the Party, State and people of Vietnam announced the construction of the Lao National Assembly building in Vientiane as a gift to the Party, State and people of Laos and General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong announced the construction of a senior secondary school as a present to Bolikhamsai province. The two sides signed seven cooperation documents in different fields. During the visit, the two sides issued a Vietnam-Laos Joint Statement.
