Hong Kong was the 3rd leg of the Prime Minister and the delegation’s official visit to the People's Republic of China at the invitation of Premier of the People's Republic of China Li Keqiang. In Hong Kong, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc met with Chief Executive of the Special Administrative Region Leung Chun-ying, and Chief Secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor.

At a meeting with Chief Executive of the Special Administrative Region Leung Chun-ying, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc congratulated the socio-economic development achievements of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, highly appreciated the rapid development and stability of economic cooperation, trade and investment between Vietnam and Hong Kong. The total accumulated FDI capital of Hong Kong enterprises in Vietnam topped US$ 16.6 billion; Hong Kong is currently the 9th largest trading partner and the 6th largest FDI partner of Vietnam, Vietnam is the third largest trade partner of Hong Kong in ASEAN.

The Prime Minister pointed out that as Vietnam is accelerating renewal and global integration and ASEAN and Hong Kong are completing negotiations on a bilateral free trade agreement (FTA), the potential of Vietnam-Hong Kong ties remains promising.

Emphasizing the need to make good use of opportunities, to further promote cooperation between the two parties, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc asked authorities, associations and businesses to facilitate exchanges, contacts, potential, economic cooperation, trade, investment, monetary finance, research and application of open policies while making it easier to expand joint work in the fields of culture, education, tourism and labor.

Mr. Leung Chun-ying briefed the Vietnamese delegation of the socio-economic development and the strength of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, asserted that Hong Kong places importance to stepping up win-win cooperation with Vietnam as part of efforts to deepen the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between China and Vietnam, expressed thanks and welcomed the proposals of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on strengthened economic cooperation, trade, investment, finance, banking, culture, education, tourism, saying he is willing to serve as a bridge to help Vietnamese firms and localities access markets and global funding.

Mr. Leung Chun-ying also expressed thanks to the Vietnamese Government for actively backing the FTA between Hong Kong and ASEAN, stating he believed that the deal will open up a new period of mutually-beneficial cooperation between Hong Kong and ASEAN, and between Hong Kong and Vietnam in particular.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister met with and talked with staff of the Vietnamese Consulate General and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Hong Kong, and Macau.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended the Hong Kong-Vietnam Business and Investment Forum and witnessed the signing of cooperation agreements and commercial contracts between the two businesses of Vietnam and Hong Kong totaling nearly US$ 10 billion.

The Prime Minister also had meetings, and worked with global investment and financial consultancy funds (State Street, Morgan Stanley, Capital Group with the total value of assets under management of US$ 9.500 billion).
