Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and a high-level delegation of the Vietnamese
National Assembly paid an official to the Republic of India at the
invitation of Indian Senate Chairman Mohammad Hamid Ansari and Speaker
of India’s Lower House Sumitra Mahajan from 08 - 11 December 2016.
During the visit, Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan met with Indian President Prana Mukherjee, Vice President and Chairman of the Indian Senate Hamis Ansari, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She received General Secretary of the Communist Party of India - Marxist (CPI-M) Sitaram Yechury and General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI) Sudhakar Reddy, President of India - Vietnam Solidarity Committee of West Bengal Sharma Greetesh, President of the Congress Party Sonia Gandhi and members of India Fund and the Indian Oil and Natural Gas Corporation.
At the meetings and contacts, the Chairwoman expressed her pleasure to lead a high-level delegation of the Vietnam National Assembly to visit India - the cradle of one of the oldest civilizations in the world. National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan congratulated the India people for their great achievements in national construction and development, affirming that Vietnam always considers India as a traditional and reliable friend while highly appreciating important progress in bilateral relations and multifaceted cooperation over the past 45 years.
India appreciated the achievements recorded by Vietnam in renovation, stating that within a short time, especially when Vietnam hadto undergo a long period of struggle for independence, freedom and reunification, Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements are admirable. On this occasion, the Indian leaders also expressed their respect forPresident Ho Chi Minh, warm feelings and impression of the country and people of Vietnam initiated since Vietnam’s national liberation struggle for national unification until today.
* At the talk between Vietnamese National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and Indian Lok Sabhar Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, the two sides agreed to further strengthen relations between the two Parliaments through exchange in the legislativefield, between parliamentarian friendship groups and agencies of the two legislative bodies. Also at the talk, the two leaders witnessed the signing of the Agreement on Cooperation in Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy, the MoU between Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a PSU under the Power Ministry of India andthe MoU between Air India and Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company on direct flight from Vietnam to India in 2017.
It can be said, the cooperation agreement signed between the two Parliament leaders during a visit is of great historic significance and role. This is also the first time Indian Lok SabharSpeaker signs a cooperation agreement.
* After the visit to Vietnam by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in May 2016, the two countries upgraded bilateral relations to “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership”, creating an important new framework for deeper and more reliable, and substantial relation in all areas. At a meeting with Prime Minister N. Modi, Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan praised the great contribution of Prime Minister N. Modi and expressed her desire forPrime Minister N. Modi to continuegiving attention to develop bilateral relations. Prime Minister N. Modi said that India and Vietnam have an age-old traditional friendship - a valuable legacy for future generations which must be preserved, fostered and developed by the two countries.
* During the meeting with Vice President and Chairman of the Indian Senate Mohammad Hamid Ansari, the Chairwoman appreciated the Indian Senate’s support to strengthen the traditional amity and strategic partnership with Việt Nam over the past years and highlighted the progress in the two legislative bodies. She confirmed the Vietnamese National Assembly’s desire to strengthen bilateral connections and closely cooperate with the Indian parliament at regional and international forums”.
Recalling the good impression during a visit to Vietnam two years before, Vice President and Chairman of the Indian Senate H. Ansari stressed India always attaches importance to its relations with ASEAN member nations and its Government is pushing forward with the “Act East” policy, in which Vietnam is an important pillar.
* During the meeting with Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan affirmed that Vietnam always supports India’s “Act East” policy and increased presence and connectivity with Southeast Asia. The Vietnamese National Assembly Chairwoman expressed the desire that President P. Mukherjee continuegiving attention to developing relations between the two countries including the relationship between the two National Assemblies, for the benefit of the two peoples, for peace, development and prosperity in the region and the world.
In response, President P. Mukherjee said that India and Vietnam should strengthen economic cooperation, apply more practical measures to boost trade and create a favorable environment for businesses to invest and operate. The leader reiterated India’s view on the East Sea issue, which opposes militarization, and resolves disputes by peaceful means in line with international law.
The official visit to the Republic of India of National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan successfully concluded, deepening ties between Vietnam and India,concretizing comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries; strengthening and enhancing the multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and India at a time when the two countries are looking forwards to the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relation establishment (1972-2017) and 10 years of Partnership Strategy (2007 - 2017)./.
