Further strengthening the Vietnam-Hungary friendship

Hungarian Parliament Speaker Kover Laszlo and National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan held talks immediately after the welcoming ceremony. At the talks, the two sides highly appreciated the outcome of the 7th meeting of the Vietnam-Hungary Joint Committee for Economic Cooperation held in Budapest on March 23-24, and agreed on bilateral cooperation plans, including measures to enhance economic and trade exchange through regular organization of trade fairs, exhibitions of products and technology of each country. However, the two sides also maintained that Hungary's direct investment in Vietnam is still low, not on par with the potential and desire of the two sides.

The Vietnamese side proposed Hungary to increase its investment in areas in which Vietnam is in need and Hungary has potential such as water resources, environmental treatment, medicine, pharmacy, food processing and bio-fertilizer production, and renewable energy. Vietnam welcomes Hungary's policy to promote economic cooperation between the two countries, including the signing of a framework agreement on credit cooperation worth 440 million euros.

Both sides agreed that education and training are a traditional field of cooperation between Vietnam and Hungary. Vietnam highly appreciates Hungary's high priority for Vietnam by raising the number of scholarships to 100 annually for Vietnamese students to study majors that Vietnam needs and Hungary has potential such as renewable energy, supporting industries, environmental protection, water resources management, information technology, economics, agriculture, and health care.

National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan thanked Hungary for helping Vietnam build the Can Tho Cancer Hospital, considering it as a significant and practical work, creating an imprint in the relations between the two countries.

On the cooperation between the two Parliaments, the two sides recognized that the both sides have always coordinated and supportedeach other in regional and international inter-parliamentary forums. The Hungarian Parliament leader expressed the desire to regularly exchange visits between the two legislative bodies, especially high-level delegations of the Parliaments. In order to develop the co-operation between the two legislative bodies, the two leaders agreed to continue the exchange of high-level delegations of Parliament leaders, agencies, the Parliamentarians’ Friendship Group and parliamentarians, andexchange of experience in parliamentary activities.

The Hungarian Parliament Speaker agreed on continued support and sharing of experience in legislation development, oversight of the operation of the State apparatus and staff training for Vietnam. The two sides agreed to intensify the coordination in supervising and stepping up the implementation of cooperation agreements signed by the two governments and strategic cooperation projects, supporting the governments, localities, businesses and peoples of the two countries to strengthen exchanges and promote relations and enhance mutual understanding and cooperation for mutual benefit.

During the visit, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan met with Hungarian President Asder János, Prime Minister Viktor Orban, and Vice-President of Parliament Jakab Istvan, received President of the Hungary-Vietnam Friendship Association Botsz Laszlo, co-chaired the opening of the Legal Forum of the two Parliaments under the theme "Perfecting law in international integration process." She also met with staff of the Vietnamese embassy and Vietnamese community in Hungary, paid a floral tribute at the Hero Monument in Budapest, visited and worked in the city of Szentendre.
