Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong successfully concluded a State visit to Cambodia

During the visit from 20-22 July, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong held talks with King Norodom Sihamoni; met President of the Senate Samdech Say Chhum, President of the National Assembly Samdech Heng Samrin, Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen and paid a courtesy called on Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong visited Great Supreme Patriarchs Tep Vong and Bukri; received Chairwoman of the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association Men Som On; laid wreaths at the Independence Monument, Norodom Sihanouk Memorial Monument and Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Monument in Phnom Penh; visited Preah Sihanouk province and attended the inauguration of Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monument in the province.

During talks and meetings, the two sides noted that the State visit of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to Cambodia this time is an important historical milestone while the two countries are commemorating 50 years of diplomatic relations and are implementing practical and meaningful activities during the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Year 2017.

The two sides agreed that inheriting the time-honored friendship in history, in the past 50 years, the good neighborly relations between Vietnam and Cambodia have overcome many challenges, gained great achievements in the struggle against the common enemy for national independence, overthrow of the genocide, construction and development of the country. These achievements stem from a close and inseparable solidarity and mutual dependence, which have become a common asset of the two countries, and will serve as foundation, and a strong motive force for the construction and development of each country.

Both sides affirmed their determination to bring into full play the achievements in bilateral relations, exert efforts to nurture and promote the good neighborly, strong, substantial and lasting friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia.

On this occasion, the two sides signed the Joint Statement on strengthening the Vietnam-Cambodia friendship and cooperation and four cooperation documents between the two countries.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong handed over gifts from the Party, State and people of Vietnam to the Cambodian Parliament House worth US$ 25 million. He also presented the Cambodian King and Queen Mother two ambulances and Preah Sihanouk province 50 sets of computers.
