Openning a new page in bilateral relations between Vietnam and Egypt

President Tran Dai Quang welcomes President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi

Ministers of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Presidential Office, Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Ministry of Investment and International Cooperation, Ministry of Transport and representatives of 20 businesses from different fields, accompanied the President of Egypt. During the visit, President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi met with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, held talks with President Tran Dai Quang, met with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and attended the Vietnam-Egyptian Business Forum, paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh in his Mausoleum and laid wreaths at the Martyrs' Monument.

During talks in a cordial and friendship atmosphere, President Tran Dai Quang and President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi expressed their satisfaction at the progress made in bilateral relationship since the two countries established diplomatic relations 54 years ago. President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi congratulated the Vietnamese people on their achievements in various fields in the process of international economic integration. President Tran Dai Quang commended Egypt for completing the political transitional roadmap and many economic reforms and national development projects to implement the Egyptian Vision 2030 program, opening up many opportunities for increasing cooperation between the two countries in different fields.

President Tran Dai Quang and President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi compared note on bilateral relations in all fields. The two sides agreed to increase the exchange of delegations at all levels through government, parliament and local channels, as well as people-to-people exchange and business connection between the two countries; agreed to further promote existing cooperation mechanisms such as the Intergovernmental Committee, political consultations and other mechanisms to strengthen understanding between the two countries; reached consensus to organize practical activities to mark the 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2018. The two sides expressed satisfaction at the effective cooperation of the two countries in regional and international forums, including mutual support for each other’s candidacy in international organizations within the United Nations.

The Egyptian side highly appreciated Vietnam's support for Egypt's accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation with ASEAN (TAC). The two sides affirmed their willingness to strengthen cooperation in many areas and to work together for progress and prosperity in each area.

The two leaders had deep exchange on international and regional situation. The two sides maintained that peace and stability in Southeast Asia and the Middle East-Africa should be sustained for the benefit of the peoples. Reaffirming the importance of strengthening international cooperation in combating terrorism and the common threat to peace-loving nations, the two sides supported the search for peaceful solutions to crises in several regional countries in the Middle East to ensure the unanimity of the above countries; unanimously support the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and the need to restart peace talks to reach final, and lasting solutions for the sake of the Palestinian people on the basis two-state solution.

The two sides affirmed their wish and determination to maintain a maritime order in accordance with the principles of international law embodied in the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and expressed satisfaction at the signing of the Minutes of the Fifth Session of the Viet Nam-Egypt Interggovernmental Committee of on this occasion and the results of the technical level meeting of the Committee together with Vietnam visit of the Egyptian Minister of Investment and International Cooperation and the President of the Suez Canal Economic Zone Authority from 21-23 August 2017.

The two leaders agreed to promote bilateral cooperation in the fields of trade and investment and pledged to create favorable conditions for businesses of the two countries to increase their market access in order to reach the bilateral trade turnover of US$1 billion in the coming time, affirming the importance of promoting cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, industry, small- and medium-sized enterprises, agriculture, fisheries, transportation, port construction, shipbuilding, culture, tourism, communication and information technology, education and cooperation between localities of the two countries.

The two sides agreed to enhance cooperation in the field of standards and quality. Vietnam welcomed Egypt’s willingness to provide technical assistance and expert training to Vietnam to meet Halal standards for exports to Muslim countries; highly appreciate bilateral cooperation in the field of culture, especially in the exchange of art troupes to participate in cultural and art festivals and agreed to strengthen cultural exchange activities including organization of Cultural Day/Week in each country.

After the talks, the two leaders witnessed the signing of nine documents including: Minutes of the Fifth Session of the Vietnam-Egypt Intergovernmental Commission; Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of the Subcommittee on Trade and Industry Cooperation between the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Egypt; Memorandum of Understanding on Fisheries Cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam and the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclaimation of Egypt; Memorandum of Understanding on sea transport between the Ministry of Transport of Vietnam and the Ministry of Transport of Egypt; Memorandum of Understanding on the cooperation between the Radio Voice of Vietnam and the National Radio of Egypt; Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Planning and Investment of Vietnam and the Ministry of Investment and International Cooperation of Egypt; Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Ministry of Planning and Investment of Vietnam and the Suez Canal Authority of Egypt; The program of tourism cooperation in the period of 2017-2019 between the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam and the Ministry of Tourism of Egypt; The Program on Cultural cooperation in the period of 2017-2021 between the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam and the Ministry of Culture of Egypt.

The two sides expressed their satisfaction at the results of the first visit of the Egyptian President to Vietnam, and considered this a milestone in strengthening and enhancing traditional friendship, opening up more opportunities for the two countries to further boost their cooperation in the political, diplomatic and economic fields.
