National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan paid an official visit to Turkey

The Meeting, themed “Economic Cooperation, Environment and Sustainable Development in Eurasia,” adopted the 17-point Joint Statement-Statement of Antalya. Attending MSEAP 3, Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan delivered a speech at a plenary session. On the sidelines of the meeting, the National Assembly Chairwoman met with the Chairman of the Russian State Duma, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Belarus and the Chairman of the National Assembly of Kazakhstan.

After attending MSEAP 3, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan led the high-level delegation of the National Assembly of Vietnam to visit the Republic of Turkey. This was the first time that a Chairperson of the Vietnamese National Assembly visited Turkey and the visit was the highest-level one of leaders of the Party and State of Vietnam to Turkey.

During the official visit to Turkey, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan held talks with Turkish National Assembly Speaker Binali Yildirim; met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, met officials and staff of the Embassy of Vietnam, and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Turkey, received the President of the Turkish Foreign Economic Relations Council and attended the Vietnam-Turkey Business and Investment Forum.

On behalf of the leaders of the Party and State of Vietnam, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan congratulated Turkey for successfully organizing the Presidential and National Assembly elections in June 2018. National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan expressed confidence that with his experience in politics, National Assembly Speaker Binali Yildirim would lead the Turkish National Assembly to fulfill its responsibilities entrusted by the Turkish people and voters.

Stating that the Asia-Pacific region was developing strongly in both economic and social terms, the Turkish National Assembly Speaker stressed that Vietnam is a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Turkey attaches great importance to relations with ASEAN and is now a dialogue partner of ASEAN.

He underlined that the two countries' relations are developing well. According to the Turkish National Assembly Speaker, apart from relations between the two governments, the two countries should develop relations between the two legislative bodies. In this process, the parliamentary friendship groups of the two countries will make a significant contribution to promoting the relationship between the two legislatures.

Hailing the effectively implementation of several agreements signed by the two Governments on the occasion of the official visit to Vietnam by Turkish Prime Minister a year earlier, Chairman of the Turkish National Assembly Binali Yildirim held that bilateral trade exchange continued rising, but was not balanced.

Hence, the Turkish National Assembly Speaker stressed the need to implement a number of projects to improve bilateral trade balance, while expressing confidence that the objective of US$4 billion bilateral trade turnover by the end of 2020 will be realized.

On the relationship between the two countries, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan expressed elation at the development of the 40-year-long friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Turkey.

National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan emphasized that Viet Nam always attaches great importance to consolidating and developing multi-faceted friendship and cooperation with countries in Southern Europe and the Middle East, including Turkey, Vietnam’s leading economic partner in that region.

The National Assembly Chairwoman thanked Turkey for its commitment to support Vietnam's bid for a non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council for the 2020-2021 term and hoped that Turkey will continue to support Vietnam in regional and international forums. She also affirmed that Vietnam welcomes and is ready to connect and promote relation between Turkey and the ASEAN.

The two National Assembly leaders also discussed international and regional situation of concern, including the East Sea issue. Both sides agreed that the maintenance of peace, stability, security and safety of maritime navigation and aviation in the East Sea is a common interest of countries inside and outside the region. Turkish Speaker of the National Assembly of Turkey Binali Yildirim affirmed his support for resolving conflicts in the East Sea by peaceful means in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea .

National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan invited Speaker of the National Assembly of Turkey to pay an official visit to Vietnam.
