    The old year passed, the new year has come. This is the time for us to together look back on what we have done in the past year and think about the plans for the new year. In 2018 full of events, the Party and State continued to bring into full play the great successes in external relations of 2017, enhancing the country's position in many fields, from socio-economy to politics, diplomacy, defense, security, sports, culture, among others.

  • APEC 2017 imprints - looking back after one year

    It has been one year since the APEC 2017 Economic Leaders’ Week concluded in Da Nang, closing a vibrant and impressive APEC year of the host country Vietnam. As the proposal to host APEC 2017 was put forward 5 years earlier in 2012, it was unforeseeable that Vietnam organized the APEC Year 2017 in such a challenging context.   • Twenty years of accession to APEC: From strategic vision to Vietnamese imprint

    Twenty two years ago on November 14, 1998, in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, Vietnam officially became a member of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). This manifested a strong implementation of our Party and State’s open foreign policy, multilateralisation, diversification and integration into the international economy, creating a driving force for the renewal process and the integration of the country in the past two decades.

  • The World Economic Forum on ASEAN in 2018 and Vietnam’s imprint

    The World Economic Forum on ASEAN in 2018 (WEF ASEAN 2018) with the theme "ASEAN 4.0: Entrepreneurship and the Fourth Industrial Revolution" took place from 11 to 13 September 2018 in Hanoi. This is a priority of Vietnam’s foreign affairs in 2018 in order to contribute to the successful implementation of the ASEAN Vision 2025 for the benefit and development of both the region and each country, prosperity of the region and the world. The success of the World Economic Forum on ASEAN in 2018 not only confirms Vietnam’s global prestige, but also enhances its position and profile in the international arena through its proactive role and positive and responsible contribution towards ASEAN.

  • Diplomacy of Vietnam: proactively, creatively, effectively and successfully implement the Resolution of the 12th Party Congress

    These days, the country is heading toward the 73rd anniversary of the August Revolution and the National Day (2 September) and Red Letter Days. Over the past 73 years, Vietnam’s diplomatic sector has accompanied the country, realizing noble revolutionary missions, making a worthy contribution to developing the war-torn country into a symbol of peace and stability, unity and harmony, innovation and development.

  • Foreign relations for peace, cooperation and development; proactive and active international integration: reality and experiences of Vietnam

    Over the past 30 years, the Communist Party of Vietnam initiated and has led the renovation of the country - one of the creative stages which has taken advantage of opportunities, overcome challenges and recorded great achievements of historic significance. Throughout the course, the Vietnamese Communist Party has always paid attention to reviewing international context in both evolution and direction of its development. This helps external relation orientations and lines closely follow the development of mankind, capitalizing on the strength of the nation and the times, making important contributions to the country’s firm advancement to socialism.

  • Cooperation Mechanisms in the Mekong Region and Vietnam's participation

    Over the past two decades, especially in recent years, cooperation in the Mekong basin has become increasingly active with a mixture of different mechanisms. In the first months of 2018, a series of summits related to this subregion took place, including the Mekong-Lancang Summit organized in Cambodia in January, the Greater Mekong Subregional Summit and the Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia Development Triangle Summit in Viet Nam in March, and Mekong River Commission Summit in Cambodia in April. Viet Nam has actively participated and made significant contributions to the success of these summits, including hosting the Greater Mekong Subregional Summit and the Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia Development Triangle Summit.

  • Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership: toward a progressive and inclusive trade model

    After more than a year of negotiations, the 11 remaining signatories of the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement including Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam officially signed the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership. Despite the withdrawal of the world's No. 1 economy, in terms of contents and commitment, this is still the new generation free trade agreement, "a model for progressive and inclusive trade." At present, this is the largest free trade agreement with a market of about 500 million people, with a GDP of US$10,100 billion (equivalent to 13.5% of the world’s GDP).

  • External information contributed to Vietnam's achievements in foreign affairs in 2017, creating a solid premise for 2018

    The year 2017 passed, leaving spreading impacts in our country's foreign affairs. The results of external relations in 2017 effectively contributed to the realization of three key tasks: ensuring the security environment, peace and stability; taking advantage of external resources to for national development; and heightening the role and position of Vietnam in the international arena, thereby creating momentum in the coming years.

  • The Party’s external relations contribute to lay an important political foundation for Vietnam's ties with other countries

    Implementing the Resolution of the 12th Party Congress and Conclusion 73-TB/TW on 8 February 2012 of the Political Bureau, 11th Tenure, on "Strengthening the Party's External Relations in the New Situation," many important achievements were made in the Party’s external relations with many breakthrough contents, contributing to forming an important political foundation in relations with other countries; maintaining a peaceful and stable environment for national development; actively supporting the struggle for peace, national independence, democracy and social progress in the world.
