  • Vietnam shows great determination to fulfill new international missions

    Building a great Vietnam is the strong aspiration of Vietnamese people in the wake of the independence of the nation. Vietnam is taking the developmental path with unprecedented internal strength. Vietnam's becoming a non-permanent member of the United Nations (UN) Security Council for the 2020-2021 tenure on June 7, 2019, with almost a majority vote (192/193 votes), is a clear affirmation. With this result, Vietnam, on behalf of Asia-Pacific countries, along with other representatives from Eastern Europe, South America, and Africa, will officially undertake the work at the UN Security Council from January 1, 2020.

  • The partnership between the United Nations Security Council and regional organizations, and the contribution of Vietnam

    The year of 2019 marked diplomatic impression when Vietnam was officially elected as a nonpermanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2020-2021 term. This is the overall result of a process in which the electoral campaign agenda is built up. One of the major contents is to expand the partnership between the United Nations Security Council and regional organizations in order to contribute to fulfilling the mission of preventing conflicts and maintaining peace and security in regions and the world.

  • The actual situation and prospect of attracting foreign direct investment from the European Union

    Over the past years, there has been an increase in the EU inflows of FDI into Vietnam in the broad sense, remarkably contributing to the economic development of the recipient. However, the capital flows have remained modest given the huge potential of the bilateral economic cooperation. With the signing of the EU – Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) on June 30th, 2019, the EU inflows of FDI are expected to surge in the coming time.

  • Elements to be taken in to consideration in Vietnam’s foreign policies in global integration

    To carry out its foreign policies of independence, self-reliance, peace, cooperation, development and multilateralism and diversification of international relations, Vietnam has been more active in global integration and confirmed a more influential position in the region and the world. Vietnam’s foreign policies over the past years have contributed to maintaining a peaceful, stable environment, creating favorable conditions for national construction and defense, and raising Vietnam’s status and prestige in the international arena. The process of making and implementing foreign policy are complicated, which should take in to consideration inside and outside factors, particularly when Vietnam is integrating deeply in to the world.

  • Vietnam is ready to assume the position of a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2020-2021 tenure

    The fulfillment of the post of a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2008-2009 tenure is a historic milestone in the implementation of foreign policy in general, and multilateral diplomacy in particular and international integration of Vietnam. This success is an important factor for the 12th Party Congress to define that multilateral foreign policy is a strategic orientation of Vietnam's foreign affairs, while directly facilitating the Vietnam’s second run for a non-permanent membership of the UNSC for the 2020-2021 tenure.

  • Movements in Asia-Pacific in 2018 and prospects 2019

    In 2018, there were five highlights in the Asia-Pacific region, the most notable and important were the dramatic increase in strategic competition between big countries, especially between the US and China. Big countries made clear policy adjustments and boosted rally of forces in the region. The situation of the Korean Peninsula and the East Sea cooled down, while the Taipei Strait heated up by the end of 2018. ASEAN continued to assert its position in the region and in relation to big countries. In 2019, big countries in the region may have to focus more on dealing with domestic issues, but the Asia-Pacific region is forecast to follow existing trends.

  • Party’s external relations in 2018 made an important contribution to the outstanding results of Vietnam's foreign affairs and overall achievements

    In 2018, in face of rapid and complex developments of the world and regional situation, which caused multi-dimensional, multi-level impacts on Vietnam's security and development, the Party's external relation, State diplomacy and people-to-people exchange actively and effectively coordinated and gained many important achievements, making worthy contributions to the overall achievements of the country. The Party brought into play the proactive, creative and innovative external relations, an important pillar of the country’s foreign relation front, contributing to safeguarding independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, maintaining and consolidating a peaceful and stable environment for national development and interests.

  • Cuba: Sixty years of persistency and creativity in paving the way for revolution

    In January 2019, the Cuban people and the communist, leftist, progressive forces in the world celebrated the 60th anniversary of the Triumph of the Revolution and Victory Day (1 January 1959- 1 January 2019). In the modern world history, the Cuban revolution and this "island of freedom" are among revolutions and socialist countries given greatest concern by the whole world. Over the past 60 years, the Cuban Party and people have been persistent and creative in their revolution against the imperialists for national liberation, practicing genuine internationalism, building socialism, suggesting alternatives to replace the capitalist regime despite fierce trials of history. The world has always acknowledged great victories made by the “Caribbean island country” which have paved the way for the triumph of the Cuban people.

  • External relations in 2018: Proactive, creative and effective

    The old year passed, the new year has come. This is the time for us to together look back on what we have done in the past year and think about the plans for the new year. In 2018 full of events, the Party and State continued to bring into full play the great successes in external relations of 2017, enhancing the country's position in many fields, from socio-economy to politics, diplomacy, defense, security, sports, culture, among others.

  • APEC 2017 imprints - looking back after one year

    It has been one year since the APEC 2017 Economic Leaders’ Week concluded in Da Nang, closing a vibrant and impressive APEC year of the host country Vietnam. As the proposal to host APEC 2017 was put forward 5 years earlier in 2012, it was unforeseeable that Vietnam organized the APEC Year 2017 in such a challenging context. However, overcoming challenges, Vietnam successfully and remarkably hosted the summit
