    Viet Nam is one of the countries vulnerable to climate change. Extensive development and hot growth have caused negative impacts on natural environment. To continue sustainable development, in the coming time Viet Nam should take suitable solutions to shift into in-depth development and green growth model.

  • Viet Nam’s external relations in renovation period: some theoretical and practical issues

    After nearly 30 years since the implementation of a foreign policy of the renovation period, Viet Nam has realized deep and extensive international integration, actively participated with responsibility in forums and international and regional organizations, broadened and deepened foreign relations with countries in the world. Thirty years are an important opportunity to renew and assess theoretical and practical issues of Viet Nam’s foreign relations, perception and implementation of the foreign policy of the Party and State of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, and draw lessons and recommendations for continued renewal of foreign policy in the coming time.

    Building a peaceful and stable environment in the region to help member countries firmly maintain independence, sovereignty and sustainable development has been reflected in almost all of ASEAN’s documents, especially in the ASEAN Charter (effective as of December 2008). Conflict prevention, management and settlement are one of the key integral components of the ASEAN Political-Security Community. Thus, participating in resolving disputes and conflicts in the East Sea within the scope of work is both a responsibility and an ensurance of ASEAN’s common interest.

  • Important contributions of party external affairs to achievements in foreign policy of the 11th national congress of the communist party of Vietnam

    Implementing the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, cooperation and development, multilateralization and diversification of relations, and active international integration, which was initiated by the 11th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, party external affairs have over the last 3 years been boosted and expanded with the aim of consolidating a political foundation for state-to-state and people-to-people relations and creating a proactive position in international relations to conform to the rapid changing world; party external affairs together with state and people-to-people diplomacy has contributed significantly to Vietnam’s diplomatic victory and the construction and defense of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

    After 10 years since the 6th Party Congress (in 1986) when the comprehensive renovation process was started, Viet Nam has not only gradually overcome the “grave, comprehensive and deep” crisis but created fundamental premise for industrialization and modernization. The premise, in its turn, has made Viet Nam confident to join international life in both scope and scale.

    Strategic and comprehensive partnerships are an important foundation for the establishment of many close bilateral mechanisms. Viet Nam’s relations with other countries are its soft power to establish and elevate its global status, make the most of opportunities and resources for national construction and defense, contributing to the maintenance of peace, stability, and development in Southeast Asia and the world at large.

  • New development in international cooperation in defence of Viet Nam (*)

    International cooperation in defence is an important part of the active and positive international integration of Viet Nam. The 11th Party Congress emphasized: “Continuing the expansion of international cooperation in national defence and security”(1). This strategic guiding thought of the Party needs to be effectively, widely and deeply carried out in external military activities so as to further international cooperation in defence of Viet Nam.
