    In recent years, local external relations have been deployed in an active, proactive, synchronous, and comprehensive manner, becoming one of the important integral components of Viet Nam’s foreign affairs, contributing significantly to socio-economic development and international integration of the country.

    In 2015, the Asia-Pacific region witnessed many new and substantive developments in international relations. These developments in the long term will contribute to creating a new regional order with new power relationships that countries, big or small, must take into account during policy making process.

  • Viet Nam’s achievements in foreign affairs during the past 5 years

    The 11th Party Congress marked an important shift in foreign policy thinking. We advocate “synchronous, comprehensive, and effective external activities” in all bilateral and multilateral channels, building upon the close coordination between Party external relations, State diplomacy, parliamentary foreign affairs and people-to-people diplomacy. The 11th Party Congress set out the line of “proactive, and active international integration” which is concretized by Resolution No. 22-NQ/TW on 10 April 2013 of the Politburo on international integration. The resolution advocates for proactive and active participation in multilateral institutions, contribution to building equal and democratic political and economic order, prevention of wars, conflicts, consolidation of peace, and promotion of cooperation for mutual benefit.

  • Some forecasts for 2016 global situation

    The global situation in 2016 basically continues moving in a trend that has been formed in 2015 and the previous years, and is unlikely to go beyond the framework of international relations which took shape since 2009. But relations between the countries surrounding the “hot spots” in certain strategic areas are more likely to become tenser than in 2015.

    Viet Nam officially became the 7th member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 1995. Since then Viet Nam has made positive contribution to maintaining internal solidarity, forstering cooperation among member countries as well as between ASEAN and other external partners for the development and success of ASEAN while improving the country’s position in the region and the world.

    Viet Nam is one of the countries vulnerable to climate change. Extensive development and hot growth have caused negative impacts on natural environment. To continue sustainable development, in the coming time Viet Nam should take suitable solutions to shift into in-depth development and green growth model.

  • Viet Nam’s external relations in renovation period: some theoretical and practical issues

    After nearly 30 years since the implementation of a foreign policy of the renovation period, Viet Nam has realized deep and extensive international integration, actively participated with responsibility in forums and international and regional organizations, broadened and deepened foreign relations with countries in the world. Thirty years are an important opportunity to renew and assess theoretical and practical issues of Viet Nam’s foreign relations, perception and implementation of the foreign policy of the Party and State of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, and draw lessons and recommendations for continued renewal of foreign policy in the coming time.
