Recently, protecting consumers’ right has been mentioned very often in Vietnam and considered an urgent and important issue on the way to international economic integration and sustainable development process.

In its renewal process, Vietnam has rapidly shifted from a centrally planned economy to a socialist-oriented market economy.

Positive changes have taken place in this area, particularly after the Ordinance on the Protection of Consumers’ Rights came into force and with efforts taken by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (now the Ministry of Science and Technology), which is responsible before the Government to protect the rights of consumers in the country, the Directorate for Standards and Quality, STAMEQ, its provincial branches, the Vietnam Standard and Consumer Organisation, VINASTAS and the network of provincial Departments of Science, Technology and Environment and VINATAS branches.
